Fundamentals of Oceanographic Engineering
This course provides civil engineering students with a fundamental understanding to the physical concepts of oceanography that influences their engineering decisions. Students will be introduced to physical properties of seawater, global atmospheric processes, and ocean current circulations. This course also discusses basic conservation equations (of mass, salt, and heat); conservation of momentum; and the equations of motion and hydrodynamic forcing. Eastern/Western boundary currents; instrumentation and observation techniques; and the development of renewable and sustainable sources of energy will also be introduced.
