Multimedia Systems and Applications
In this course, students will be introduced to principles and current technologies of computer-based multimedia systems. They will study current media types (images, video, audio, graphics etc) and how they are used to create multimedia content. Issues in effectively representing, processing, and compressing multimedia data will be addressed. The students will be familiarized with the range of tools used in creating computer-based multimedia.

Catalog Description
In this course, students will be introduced to the principles and current technologies of computer-based multimedia systems. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify different multimedia data types such as image, audio, and video.
- Understand basic image data representations. (Student outcomes: 1)

- Familiarize with basic audio, image, and video coding/compression techniques such as MPEG, JPEG, etc. (Student outcomes: 1)
- Learn how to capture, digitize, store, and manipulate a variety of multimedia data. (Student outcomes: 1)
