College of Engineering and Petroleum Renews ABET Accreditation
The Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University, Dr. Adel Hussein Malallah, announced the renewal of the College's accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in the United States, reaffirming the quality of its academic programs and their compliance with international standards for engineering education.
Dr. Malallah stated that the renewal of the accreditation confirms the academic excellence of the College's engineering programs and the quality of their educational outcomes. He explained that the evaluation criteria include program educational objectives, curricula, faculty members, students, administration, available facilities, and the level of institutional support provided to the College.
He added that the accreditation process included a comprehensive self-evaluation of the academic programs, followed by an on-site review during which the ABET evaluation team examined students' work, visited the laboratories, met with faculty members, and toured a number of academic facilities and support services related to the educational process.
Dr. Malallah explained that the final report included a comprehensive evaluation of the College, in addition to an independent assessment of each academic program. He emphasized that the renewed accreditation strengthens the international recognition of the quality of the College's engineering programs and their educational outcomes, while providing graduates with internationally recognized qualifications.
He affirmed that this achievement reflects Kuwait University's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education and advance its academic outcomes in accordance with international standards. It also aligns with the University's strategic objective to achieve quality and institutional excellence while enhancing its graduates' competitiveness in both academic and professional fields.
Dr. Malallah dedicated this achievement to all members of the College and the University administration, expressing his appreciation for their continued support and collective efforts in fulfilling the accreditation requirements and maintaining the quality of the College's engineering programs.
Meanwhile, the Acting Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Abdullah Al-Ajmi, stated that the Academic Assessment Office, in cooperation with the College's academic departments, played a vital role in sustaining the quality of the educational process and preparing for the accreditation review. These efforts culminated in the renewal of ABET accreditation for all engineering programs without any deficiencies or weaknesses being identified.
Prof. Al-Ajmi expressed his appreciation to the faculty members, students, administrative staff, and everyone who contributed to this achievement. He emphasized that these collective efforts support the continuous development of the educational process, serve Kuwait University and the State of Kuwait, and reflect the University's sustained commitment to supporting the College.
